![]() SCP-173 can be avoided by getting a closed door between it and the player, as this will prevent SCP-173 from reaching the player as it cannot open doors. Any time the player looks away from SCP-173, its facial appearance will change to one of 10 possible faces. SCP-173 will not begin to chase the player until the player has seen SCP-173, at which point the blink meter will appear and SCP-173 will give chase. This means that SCP-173 can only move if the player is currently blinking, turned away, or the player's line of sight to SCP-173 is obscured by a wall or other object. However, SCP-173 cannot move while it is observed. It will attempt to pursue and kill the player via snapping the player's neck. SCP-173 is the primary antagonist of the Light Containment Zone. As the sapience of the object has yet to be determined, whether this change is dependent on any behavior state or is purely cosmetic is unknown. The painted facial patterns of the sculpture alter over time as it is left unobserved. For unclear reasons, SCP-173 seems incapable of targeting unconscious individuals. However, alternative methods of attack and hostility towards non-humans have been recorded. The sculpture is capable of manipulating the steel rebar to attack its victims where it will attempt to snap the neck at the base of the skull or strangle the victim to death. However, the statue is extremely hostile and will attempt to kill any human that enters its containment chamber if left unobserved. It is unknown if SCP-173 is intelligent or sapient. SCP-173 displays awareness of its environment, reacting to changes and responding to stimuli when it is free to move. ![]() Personnel assigned to enter its containment chamber are instructed to alert one another before blinking to avoid complete loss of visual contact. The mechanism for its locomotion is not known at this time. When SCP-173 is left unobserved and line of sight is broken by a human conscious being, the object becomes animate, moving at speeds documented between 60 and 90 km/h. The two appendages projecting from the upper section of the sculpture consist of exposed and tangled reinforcing bars where the concrete has disintegrated. SCP-173 consists of multiple individual concrete portions joined by steel reinforcing bars. Traces of Krylon brand spray paint on the statue's upper body, resembling a face. The statue is vaguely humanoid in shape, although improperly proportioned. ![]() SCP-173 is a concrete sculpture of unknown origin measuring 2.0 meters tall and weighing approximately 468 kg. ![]()
